Empower Santhal Youth, Stop Forced Migration

Jharkhand, a land blessed with natural wealth, vibrant tribal communities, and a rich cultural legacy, continues to face deep-rooted economic struggles. Despite being one of India’s most resource-abundant states, its people have not reaped the benefits of development. According to the Jharkhand Economic Survey Report 2024-25, the state ranked 26th among 28 states in per capita income in 2000-01 and only marginally improved to 25th in 2021-22. Agriculture, forestry, and fishing and other activities that form the backbone of rural livelihoods that together contribute nearly 15% of the state’s GDP. Yet, rural communities remain deprived of access to quality education, healthcare, infrastructure, and income security. This lack of opportunity has forced large-scale migration, especially among youth and women, who leave their villages in search of jobs. Unfortunately, this trend not only weakens the rural economy but also erodes the indigenous culture, traditions, and identity of Jharkhand’s tribal communities. At DISA, we believe the solution lies in sustainable, community-driven development that builds economic resilience while safeguarding cultural heritage. Our Objective Through this campaign, we aim to: 1. Empower rural youth to pursue traditional livelihoods such as agriculture, handicrafts, and forest-based activities. 2. Create sustainable livelihood opportunities in native communities to reduce migration. 3. Preserve Jharkhand’s rich culture and traditions by promoting indigenous crafts, knowledge, and skills. 4. Strengthen social infrastructure, ensuring dignity, inclusion, and opportunities for all.
